In a scene gone bananas with the abuse of exotic soundscapes and afro-sample-pack work-outs its refreshing to feel an artist’s enthusiasm for groove, percussion and raw-funk reflected through his machinery. Assisted by his constant companion and cable chewer Castro*, Jamie Paton has skilfully re-written a freaky soundtrack for the dance floors of 2019, a time when the future has never felt so real.

Squeeze The Prime Time, kicks off with pitched down feline-chatter, chords soaked in the cold November rain and drums conjured from the edge of the reverberated atmosphere which continue to be served up all the way across the EP. The ‘Dub’ strips back the melancholic XTC chords and gets the machine-driven drums firing off rapid-fire style. NRG level 8.5.

On the B-side Syrens sounds the call to all the modular maniacs out there. Tripping and tweaking all the way through the 9 mins, it does an aces attempt at leaving you confused and satisfied at the same time. Lastly, ‘Improper Conduct’ does exactly what a B2 should. Squelchy, bumpy, spacey, and groovy counterbalanced with the perfect amount of acid, spice and snap.

Jamie Paton - a man with a mission to widen the groove and escalate Multi Culti’s status in the neo-acidic-tecnhoid-funk-party scene to platinum-chief. Release number 44, worth waiting for.

*note to reader : Castro is a turtle-shelled Felis catus domesticus.

about

Multi Culti strip down and sling low with this ep of restrained early-morning house from UK's Jamie Paton. One half of Cage & Aviary, the London-based producer follows up releases on Emotional Especial and Holga Nord with virtuosic depth.

It may be the power of suggestion, but Squeeze the Prime Time sounds like a well-worn night-life wayfarer wringing their very last brain cells for more serotonin on the dance-floor. On 'Syrens' especially, there is a sense of subdued, spectral ecstasy. Squelchy, spacey, bumpy, this is a masterful soundtrack to synapses firing to the world's most cherished tryptamine.

Multi Culti production duo Dreems & Thomas Von Party add a 'Self-Help' remix, an unashamed attempt to lend 75% more hippy to the package, taking holotropic breath-work to the masses as only a pair of gurus can do.
