With ten strong releases under their belts, Multi Culti label mates Von Party and Dreems join forces in-between hammock-duty and kale-fanning sessions to present this collection of exploratory études and vibey interludes.
Culled from Von Party’s arsenal of half-mad demos of primitive, raw loopy fun, these tracks move to their own beat, or to no beat at all. With the ambient Multinational DNA (Strand 1 & 2) as bookends, the EP properly kicks off with ‘Western Central,’ swinging open the saloon doors of your mind, strutting outwards into the unknown.
‘Mayan Voyager,’ a nod to the art car the duo played on this year in Black Rock City, takes things even deeper with a slow-burning, spacey afro-sex-cult disco vibe. It’s not a record you’ll play at every party, but for the rare freaky times when the tempo is low but the dance-floor has a witchy, pagan intensity, put this on and take (your clothes) off. ‘Mushrooms on the Hill’ follows gently, inspired by the calm and quiet of a sunrise mushroom ritual. Next up, ‘Flea Market’ filter-polishes a sample of a Kolo-Beti festival song, adding synths, flutes, percussion, and love, to light-hearted sun-worshipping effect.
Punctuated by mating calls, children mingling, jungle frogs, and the noise and dust of many a scratched-up record, this is a scattered patchwork of memories, dreams, and reflections from voyages of the mind.
